- Mix tar with the aggregate
- Lay the mixture onto the surface
- Compact the mixture with a vibrating roller
- Durable: Tarmac is a strong, weather-resistant material that can withstand heavy use
- Low maintenance: Tarmac requires less maintenance than other material
- Good traction: Tarmac’s rough texture provides better grip in icy conditions
Similar materials:
- Asphalt: Similar to tarmac, but made with bitumen instead of tar. Asphalt is generally more durable than tarmac.
- Bitmac: A modified asphalt that contains fibres to increase its durability

Ground Drainage
“Ground drainage” refers to the system of pipes and channels designed to remove excess water from the surface of the ground, typically rainwater, by directing it away from a specific area to prevent flooding or water accumulation; essentially, it’s the process of draining water from the soil and land surface using various methods like underground pipes, ditches, or trenches.
Ground drainage can be further categorised into “surface drainage” (removing water from the ground surface) and “subsurface drainage” (removing water from below the ground surface using perforated pipes).
- Common methods:
- French drains: A popular type of subsurface drainage using a perforated pipe wrapped in gravel to collect and channel water away from a specific area.
- Gutters and downspouts: Direct rainwater from roofs to drainage systems.
- Ditches and channels: Open trenches used to collect and transport surface water.Importance:
Proper ground drainage is crucial to prevent issues like basement flooding, erosion, and damage to structures by managing water runoff effectively.
Artificial Grass

- Low maintenance: It doesn’t need to be mowed, watered, or fertilised
- UV stable: It resists fading and degradation from sunlight
- Weatherproof: It’s resistant to rain and snow
- Consistent appearance: It retains its colour and shape for most of its lifespan Artificial grass, also known as synthetic turf, is a synthetic surface that resembles natural grass. It’s made of plastic blades, a backing, and infill.Uses
